All Apologies - Nebulizer Potion Improvements on the Way!
Ill at my own home, I've been working out in coffee shops lately, carving up time to get many things done. In my horror, The Nebulizer Potion and the Electric Compass is riddled with typos. I am hurrying to improve the text and get it published asap. Learning from this avoidable mistake, I have decided to move the release date of Willow, in hopes to afford to hire a line editor while wishing for the total edit package for the book. I haven't promoted Willow and the phone lines aren't lighting up for my newest, yet; so no disappointment, I am sure it's better to get the book perfected, first. Thanks.

Holy Heck it Must be Halloween?!
So, I screwed up!! At midnight, last night, I thought about checking on my newest book promotion: the FREE final book in my cyber-punk, vampire trilogy, but my bed was calling me. After late morning Starbucks and a scone, I checked my book's Amazon page and OMG!!! No promo!! No FREE book! I had set Book 2 to FREE promo, instead?!! Book 2 had been free in the summer months - so, I had already given out 82 free e-books on that one. Omigod-ghod-gosh!
Two hours later, I have this promo 'thing' all straightened out, on the deal. So, if you'd like a FREE TRILOGY - be quick. Today, the Book 2 Free Promo will end (thank fright!), and then, October 28th - 31st, Book 3 will be on free promo (still 4 days, but moved down one number). Lastly, Book 1 which was scheduled for free promo from Halloween Night to November 3rd remains on as mentioned. All calmed down, there it was like the good book 1 that it is, patiently set upon the Bookshelf, all this time, awaiting its debut as part of a trilogy - not alone like it once was, but a leader of its kind. So love it, thank it - read it for Bub's sakes - on Halloween Night, Day of the Dead, or anytime the wind brushes limbs against the window panes moving shadows in the corners of your room while you duck under covers, safe, warm, and reading The Quill Pen Killer rather than meeting your vampire out in the night. Unless its Halloween, and it IS the treat I'm giving at the door.
Note to self: put down the Starbucks and check on my promos at midnight next time.

OBA Stress and a Prequel
I am, maybe, the dumbest entrant to the Oregon Book Awards. I knew I was going to enter this year, long ago, yet I am battling the admission information and requirements to the very last. Ho hum, I'm so dumb - is a little song I wrote this week. So, I was thrilled when I learned about Kindle pre-orders. About to finish the third book in my vampire trilogy. I can upload without worries that there won't be a link to go with my effort like Painting the Castle for the cover - The Nebulizer Potion and the Electric Compass.
Another reason to smile: I now have books for sale at Smashwords.com. Something I have thought about getting done for a while, now. So, far, I have The Quill Pen Killer and The Faerie Ring Dance uploaded. I like the site and all it offers me, as an author. Please feel free to comment about your experience as a reader, reader-author, too. Smashwords also offers pre-orders, so when all the hectic OBA duties are done, I will be able to upload more series books as the site distributes to Nook and popular book sellers - even libraries.
Wondering what my entry is going to be? See its new Facebook page for information. Page likes always appreciated.

Generating READERS in a Reader's Generation
As a kid I read a lot. I formed an annoying habit of re-reading books if I couldn't get new books fast enough. With the young reader generations, these days however, its not just the number of books but the advanced content of the books they are reading that amazes me. Case in point, I wasn't ready for Fight Club when I read it at 23 yet my son and his friends read most of Chuck Palahniuk's books before the end of the twelfth grade. I read on Twitter that picture books are now too often being sent back to the warehouse unopened, because parents are buying their children chapter books much earlier. (From the get-go? I hope not! I loved picture books, didn't you?)
With multiple generations of readers equipped with text laden e-readers, apps, and chapter books, it should be a simple path to follow for us authors - write great stuff - to be successful. Readers, these days, like a challenging book too, no baby talk even for the babies, I guess. I've written middle readers - and younger -chapter books, though I've tried to appeal to all ages - and entertain. I've tried to add mystery and an awakening moment or three where maybe you thought this sweet, kids' author wouldn't have plotted you through unruly legends or connected the loose threads you didn't expect to connect. I know I market to a group who's growing up quickly, however. In fact they are growing up intellectually before their Carter's wear out! As a mom, I couldn't quite handle that, so I gently reminded, 'slow down, have some fun - don't grow up - all the way - just today'. As for YA authors, they've known for a long time how grown up kids are, but I'm hoping there's enough childish play time for a little silly kid stuff before YA reading age.
